Denmark Technical College and Fusion Centers Announce State-of-the-Art Cybersecurity SOC

Denmark Technical College (DTC) and Fusion Centers have announced a groundbreaking partnership to establish a state-of-the-art managed security operations center (SOC) corporation in Denmark, SC. This initiative aims to revolutionize rural South Carolina's cybersecurity landscape.

Inspired by the Cyber Bridge Foundation and the CBDA scholarship committee's work securing HBCUs, the SOC will serve a diverse clientele, including:

  • HBCUs
  • Higher education institutions
  • The United States Department of Defense
  • Other public agencies

Fusion Cyber's Leading Role:

Fusion Cyber, a key supporter of DTC's cybersecurity and AI programs, is spearheading the development of Fusion Centers Inc., the company that will operate the SOC. The SOC will offer cutting-edge services, including:

  • Endpoint detection and response
  • An AI-powered cybersecurity solution for real-time threat detection and mitigation

Vision and Impact:

"We're taking technical apprenticeship education into the AI cyber-secured age," said Christopher Etesse, CEO of Fusion Cyber. "We envision multiple Fusion Centers working across senior military institutes, HBCUs, and Minority Serving Institutions, bringing well-paying jobs to rural economies."

The SOC will operate on an apprenticeship model, providing:

  • A pathway to in-demand cybersecurity careers
  • Economic mobility
  • Much-needed services to HBCUs and other institutions

Compliance and Community Benefits:

"The SOC will be integral to complying with the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act's cybersecurity requirements for federal financial aid," said Willie L. Todd, Jr., Ph.D., President and CEO of Denmark Technical College. The initiative will also:

  • Offer employment opportunities to rural veterans.
  • Provide 24/7, 365-day-a-year security for student data.

Leadership and Timeline:

Fusion Centers has appointed Sandor Slijderink as the on-site director. The SOC aims to launch in the first half of 2024.

Impact on DTC and Cybersecurity Education:

"This facility will allow our students to achieve economic mobility and build fulfilling careers," said Dr. Todd. "We aim to be a major disruptor in cybersecurity education."
