UK and Fusion Cyber Partner to Tackle Cybersecurity Talent Shortage

A new partnership between the University of Kentucky (UK) and Fusion Cyber aims to address the critical cybersecurity skills gap. Fusion Cyber's Cyber Risk Management Framework Bootcamp offers a fully virtual, multi-week program designed to prepare learners for in-demand cybersecurity roles.

Bootcamp Details:

  • 100% Virtual: Accessible from anywhere with an internet connection. No high-end computer required.
  • Cyber Risk Management Focus: The curriculum covers the Risk Management Framework (RMF) based on NIST standards, recognized by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
  • Industry Certifications: Participants can earn valuable certifications including Security+, CISA, CEH, and CISSP. (Note: These are independent certifications and not awarded by UK).
  • Hands-on Learning: A browser-based cyber range provides real-world experience in solving cybersecurity challenges.
  • Expert Instruction: Experienced instructors and tutors provide support, leveraging AI tools to enhance learning.
  • No Prior IT Experience Required: While a serious commitment is necessary, prior IT experience isn't a prerequisite.

Addressing the Skills Gap:

With 755,000 open cybersecurity jobs in the U.S. (Statista), the need for skilled professionals is immense. Fusion Cyber CEO and UK alumnus Christopher Etesse highlights the program's ability to equip learners with practical skills highly sought after by employers. Graduates have secured positions at prestigious organizations including Google, Lockheed Martin, MIT, George Mason University, and various government agencies.

University Partnership:

The collaboration between UK's Pigman College of Engineering and Fusion Cyber provides a direct pathway for students and professionals to gain the necessary skills and certifications for successful careers in cybersecurity. Department of Computer Science Chair Zongming Fei emphasizes the bootcamp's alignment with industry needs and its role in bridging the gap between education and employment.

Fusion Cyber's Mission:

Fusion Cyber, founded by Etesse, brings together expertise in online education, SaaS technologies, and cybersecurity to provide accessible and impactful training. Their mission is to educate a diverse range of learners, empowering them with skills to build successful careers while contributing to national cybersecurity.
